Trucking Accidents and San Diego

Roadways: Why Are They So Common?

Commercial truck accidents happen all too often on San Diego highways and intersections. Why? San Diego is known for high-speed freeways, oftentimes expanding lanes from four-lanes through the Balboa Park area to as large as eight-lanes across as you enter the Mission Valley. Additionally, Interstate 5 is open to all motor vehicles, at all times, with no fee. The combination of high speeds, multiple lanes and multiple types of motor vehicles results in too many truck accidents and fatalities.

Trucking Accidents

Every car accident is scary, but trucking accidents are particularly dangerous due to the 18-wheeler’s size and weight. In most instances, 18-wheeler accidents are between the truck and a much smaller car or motorcycle. When driving on San Diego roadways, we always suggest passing an 18-wheeler on it’s left side (out of the blind spot) at a speed that is reasonable to pass. Most trucking accidents happen due to:

  • Bling Spots
  • Dangerous Cargo or Debris
  • Braking Ability due to Weight
  • Mechanical Failures
  • Trucker Exhaustion

At-Fault Drivers

In all accident cases, its a lawyer’s job to prove who is at-fault for the accident when hired. This is no different for trucking accidents. When you’re involved in a trucking accident, it’s important to take all the following steps, if you’re not seriously injured, in order to uphold a strong case:

  • Call 9-1-1 immediately to the scene
  • Take pictures of your car, your injuries and the truck involved
  • Take pictures of anything you notice about the truck: debris, failing equipment etc.
  • Write down contact information of any witnesses
  • Exchange information with the involved parties
  • Do not post to social media

When you contact a lawyer after your truck accident, nobody is immediately assumed at-fault without strong witnesses and evidence at the scene. This means any party involved in the accident could hold a strong case with evidence if there was no clear witness or at-fault party immediately at the scene of an accident.
